As of July 2020, SJSU officially has an established COTAD Chapter!
COTAD (Coalition of Occupational Therapy Advocates for Diversity) Chapters are designed to support OT students to work together to develop and promote diversity and inclusion within OT education programs and in the profession. Find out more information about COTAD on their website!
Our workshops and volunteer opportunities include:
- Partnered with AACI's Asian Women's House to make origami cranes with resources for domestic violence survivors.
- Students assisted blind and/or visually impaired individuals that attended the Vista Technology Conference, which showcased adaptive equipment.
- Students assisted children with disabilities participate in water activities at Paddle 4 Good event.
- LGBTQAI+ Workshop hosted Bonnie Sugiyama. Workshop included information on pronouns, gendered language and gender equality. Discussed ways to make medical and health settings safer for the transgender community.
- Health Trust Food Sort sorted fresh produce and dried goods, which would later become Meals on Wheels and Food is Medicine meals.
- TBI Survivor workshop hosted by Gerardo Garay and learned about his experience with a TBI.
- Grief Workshop hosted Janet Childs of the Bill Wilson Center.
